What I Didn't Know About Writing & now The Christian Writers Connection!

The Naomi Chronicles (3 Book Series) by Paula Rose Michelson
Honestly, I didn't know I'd begun writing the Naomi Chronicles until I read a short portion of what would become book one of that saga, No Other Choice. While reading a snippet at the Shuvah Yisrael Women's Writer's Group, one of the members who'd been encouraging me to write exclaimed, "You're writing a book!" The women agreed and I discovered the lady who'd been encouraging me to write was a small Messianic publisher who wanted to publish my work! Bolster up by my husband and writers I began to write the story Naomi was telling me.

I had written a weekly column called 'Teen Scene' for a San Diego paper when a teen, and while interning in a dually diagnosed psychiatric hospital, helped write the updated interne training manual. Neither of these experiences prepared me to write fiction. I must confess that I did not know writers must chose the 'voice' they were to write in... All I knew was that I would write as long as my heroine, Naomi was telling me her story.

Amazed to have found a publisher, and just months away from the first books release date, while doing a final read through, I discovered there was too much of me and not enough of Naomi. Though the task was daunting, I did a major rewrite. With the help of my editor, who’d read a portion and knew the book would be much better, the publisher agreed to postpone the release.  When preparing to send the second novel, Choosing to Be to the publisher, once again I had a lot to re-write.

By the third book, Beginning Anew, I knew what was needed and looked forward to honing my skills.

Due to health issues, however, by the time I was preparing the fourth book, Commitment for Two for publication, I had forgotten what I'd learned and only realized this when working with a dear Christian author who offered to edit my work.

I share all of this today, to let anyone who is struggling with their writing process know out of the crucible of creation, readers are blessed. For James 1:17 says, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

The LAMB Ministries Self-help books were written to be read one after the other. However, each book is a stand-alone and can be read independently of each other. For the best reading experience, we suggest reading them in order:
Book #1: How Did We Become Angry?
Book #2: Why Did We Blame?
Soon to release, Book #3: What is the Shame Game?

FROM THE AUTHOR

Having the Lord lead me to found LAMB Ministries in 1988, I realized after the publication of several of Naomi books, that she is a fictional prototype of the hundreds, perhaps thousands of traumatized and abused women I've been blessed to mentor since believing in Yeshua (Jesus). Thought I studied to be a Chemical Dependency - Lifestyle Disorder Counselor who was offered a job at the psychiatric hospital I interned at before I completed my courses, I believe it was God's perfect timing to uproot our family and have me meet people who dearly loved the Lord.

Having asked Jesus to forgive me and made Him the Lord of my life before we moved, I attended church at a friend's invitation. Since my daughter, who was also a believer, liked the church, we decided to go there. My friend suggested I speak with Pastor Hurt. I meet with him and discovered I had a testimony! I asked him what Bible he used. On the way home I bought three; for my daughter, me, and my yet unbelieving husband. Within a week, I'd read the entire NIV Bible footnotes and all.

The following Sunday my daughter and I went early so we could attend Bible study. I attended a women's Bible study. When it was time for prayer, one woman shared that a lady friend of hers was a 'white knuckle alcoholic'. I told her about my studies and offered to give her a book once unpacked. Later that day, I got a phone call and agreed to meet with the woman. A month later, ten women had sought me out. LAMB Ministries was born when Pastor Hurt appointed me the head of Women's Lay-Counseling for our church. Each LAMB Ministry book is a short foundational teaching taken from this in-depth year long course.

God's Word & prayer healed me. Sharing what I learned helps others!

5-Star Amazing Review 4 No Other Choice ~ Now 99 Cents!

My thanks to Beverly Lynnt for her 5-Star review! “Emotionally gripping, fascinating glimpse to a little-known period of history, eye opening! I have to say that this book and its sequel are some of the most intriguing reading I've experienced in a long while. It is the kind of story that makes you "walk a mile in someone else's moccasins." It is fiction, but based on history. That's one of the reasons I love these books by this author so much.

First, the author prefaces the piece by asking us to imagine "what if" our beliefs were what threatened our family's very lives. How would we live to survive? Suppose we saw our families and friends all around us killed or expelled or mistreated because of their similar beliefs? What would you do as a daughter of the house? Would you go into hiding? Live a lie? Fear for your life? Sacrifice for your family's safety? With this mindset established, Naomi is introduced to us just as she sets foot in immigration as a 15-year-old girl, about to be deported because the family that was supposed to support her suddenly refuses to sponsor her in America. But she is rescued. The question presented in this book is this: was that rescue a blessing or a curse? You have to read this story to find out.

This book and book two used to be one story. So you need to purchase the second book to find the resolution to the first, which ends on a mild cliff hanger. Fortunately, book two picks up about five minutes after the first ends. Since this is a series, I didn't mind that so much. But I feel you should know this and prepare to purchase both books together. In spite of that, book one is complete in that it encapsulates a complete idea and develops it thoroughly.

I enjoy getting to know a subculture of America I have never become acquainted with, in this case the Spanish Harlem area, or Harlem as it's known today. The author uses this setting to make the surrounding circumstances Naomi finds herself in alive and familiar. You get to know and somewhat understand her community, watch how Naomi sacrifices her life goals to play an important part of the barrio and in the lives of its citizens. The author writes this so well I felt as if I were part of the community.

Naomi herself is going through a transition. The reader becomes privy to her inner turmoil as she struggles to find her place in life. Then the author adds a sweet romance in the final chapters that brings all the circumstances to a head, adding slight tension in Naomi's character development.

I highly recommend this book, and of course, the entire series. It appears there is more to come, so I am looking forward to reading all the books based on how much I enjoyed the first two. I hope you will grow to love this series too.” http://amzn.to/1tN7hEp

Why Writing Book Reviews is IMPORTANT 2 Me

In the last two months, I’ve written 13 reviews all of them for 5-Star reads! One of the 13 reviews is for a cozy mystery written by a non-Christian. I mention this because my heart’s desire in all things is to show my readers, and yes – readers of my books know and Do check out my Amazon reviews posted at: https://goo.gl/qm8a - that my desire as my bio on Amazon author page says, is to, “Faithfully depict Gods love, compassion, and forgiveness while showing her readers The Jewish Messiah of Israel and the world parallel her wish to see those who feel 'less than' restored to wholeness.”

Though I wish other authors would endeavor to do as I have, I know that each is called according to their gifts and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Where I find joy in giving Christian authors books 5-Star and occasionally 4-Star reviews knowing that many will be built up or come to faith in their Messiah because of what was written, others are not called to do this as often as I have.

However, since I do know that when a newly released book receives 50 good reviews within the first 30 days of release Amazon makes this book more visible. My prayer for all who read this is that each of you take the time to write and post reviews asap so that those who read and those searching for the only thing that matters for eternity will find what they seek.

Yours in Messiah <><

2 Celebrate Release Day 4 "TWISTED", I interview author DiAne Gates!

DiAne,
Thanks for letting me interview you about the release of Twisted. I think the questions I’ll ask are the those that readers would if they had the chance.

WHERE DID THE ROPED AND TWISTED STORIES BEGIN?
Like everyone’s story—people I met, places I’d been, things I’d seen. Life. Everyone has a story, Paula. And for every story told or written lives change and hearts are touched. And I’d like to ask your readers, what story percolates in them, begging to be told? When are they going to write their story? After all, none of us are getting any younger.
And that’s why I write, speak, and teach. To encourage people to tell their story. To share their experiences. To let people know what you’ve learned. You may never know this side of heaven whose life will be touched and changed by reading what God taught you. And you can be sure God allowed the circumstances of your story to occur, not just for you, but for those He puts in your path who long to hear about how you made it through that difficult journey to the other side.

HOW CAN I BEGIN A STORY?
Story telling is like planting a seed. Just a speck that springs to life in your mind, develops roots, sprouts to the surface, and blooms. Every one of us needs to ask God to clarify the events He’s taken us through. Asking our self what’s your take away? Asking others what they learn from our story—just give them the high points. Don’t bore them with the tiny details. Then begin recording what God lays on your heart. Your first draft will be rough; but it’s thrilling to sit in front of your screen and pour out words that originate in your heart. And if seeing the words come to life makes you cry, so much the better! Every writer must bleed on the page.

MUST I SPEND COUNTLESS HOURS IN FRONT OF THE COMPUTER?
The majority of writing time is spent thinking. You can do that anywhere—washing dishes, ironing clothes, weeding the flower bed.  Even taking a bath. Writers don’t come equipped with off and on buttons. I keep a pencil and paper with me at all times. I’ve even been known to jot a note or two during my windshield time. And I’ve waked from a sound sleep with a phrase, twist in plot, or idea to make my work in progress sing. But my best thinking time is in the bathtub. One of my writer friends had her husband install a white board beside her bathtub. Isn’t that a grand idea?

CONSIDER THE ULTIMATE STORY TELLER
Jesus was the ultimate story teller. He used illustrations the people he talked to would understand. So why shouldn’t we communicate to our children, friends, and those God puts in our path the same way as our Lord? With a story—your story—my story. His story in your life.

SO, I’VE WRITTEN MY STORY…NOW WHAT?
Once you’ve written a few pages, search for other writers to share your words. Or you can spend endless hours plowing through a whole book—like I did in Roped. Took years. Oh well, that decision gave me the opportunity to rewrite the whole manuscript—a bunch-a-times. The most profitable thing God led me to do (besides talking to Him about my writing) was joining a group of six other serious writers. We allowed ourselves to be vulnerable. To listen to the others’ suggestions and accept their advice.

BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE A COMMITMENT BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Decide in your heart and mind to never, never, never give-up! Seek God’s direction and walk through the doors He opens. And someday you’ll hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant—”
Now what are you waiting for? No time like the present to write! To ge this book click: https://goo.gl/HCQxA5

5-Stars! "A Big Thumbs Up for this Amazing Read!"
"On April 20, 2016, I hosted talented author DiAne Gates on my blog where she answered my questions and at my request shared a review for her fiction "Roped". The fact that I'd spent a great summer riding and taking care of the horse, I was given named Apricot made her story one I knew I wanted to read. But time, my own writing and the busyness of life caused me to push that thought aside until DiAne offered to gift me her book when she discovered that I'd been sick for many months.

As I imaged from the opening sentence to the last one I was in cowgirl heaven. I know that sounds odd because I'm a city gal - acrylic nails and all - but even if you've never been in the saddle, 'Roped' will put a lariat around your heart and you’ll be tethed to Crissy Crosby who while chasing her dream to continue her parents’ rodeo legacy discovers that with God all things even the taming of her... Since I don't want to spoil the story, you'll have to read this emotionally charged story for yourself to find out what happens! And I strongly suggest that you give yourself this pleasure now!" #Happy #FreebieWeekend #Download Choosing to Be 4 #Free NOW!

Beverly Lynnt in her 5-Star review said, “What a terrific resolution to the first book! I want more! This is book two of the series, The Naomi Chronicles. Both books are very closely tied, so even though they are complete books and can be read on their own, this second book closely continues the story begun in the first book and resolves much of it. I recommend you purchase them together and read them one right after the other.

The focus of this book divides between Naomi and her husband, Chaz. They are separated after only one week of marriage at the beginning of this story. What's unique about this book is that the first book emphasized how most of life's choices had been removed from Naomi's life in her first thirty years. How many of us readers can identify with that? Stuff happens, and sometimes leads us places we hadn't originally wanted to go. But now, she is at a crossroads and begins to realize she has many choices to make. The choices do not come easy to her, so this is her opportunity to learn many truths, find her inner peace, especially coming to peace with her past, and figure out how to proceed. Does she go back into hiding, or will she become like a butterfly, finally released from her cocoon?

Also in this second book, we become more acquainted with Chaz as an individual. We only get to know him briefly in the first book, so now his character becomes a little more developed and we see why he does the things he does. There is a twist in the plot here that may surprise you. I know it certainly knocked me for a loop when I learned more of his background. All I will tell you at this point is that there is a resolution for Naomi and Chaz. But the twist and the means of resolution is what makes this part of the tale so interesting.

There is so much to love in this second book. First, the author does a remarkable job of fashioning an old-world atmosphere in the way Naomi dresses, talks and thinks that's charming. But it is also in stark contrast to the rest of this new world, and it takes her time to adjust to the American way of life. I find that so endearing. The author uses a small boy to make that transition more palatable for Naomi. As the saying goes, "out of the mouth of babes..."

Second, the same little boy brings in comic relief while Naomi grapples with heavy life issues. How true to life! Often when we are trying to take in what God is speaking to us about, distractions are a way of bringing relief to the intensity of the moment. Either it becomes a way to take our minds off the issue and leads us away, or it helps us focus better on the point God is trying to make. I enjoy seeing how the author uses this feature for Naomi's good.

Third, I love the way the author leaves an opening for further development near the conclusion of the book. It makes me look forward to reading more of this series.” http://amzn.to/1zK3rPC

3 Inspirational Christian Romances to LOVE!

5Stars! “An emotionally charged, enjoyable fiction! No Other Choice: The Naomi Chronicles, Book One follows the plight of teenage Naomi, who, under the guidance of the mentor, who saved her from being deported, flourishes into a complex young woman. Always remembering, yet haunted by her religious past, she travels through life carrying a weight of guilt for her continual duplicity in her relationships, both female and male. It was easy to be swept up by her plight, while she was constantly on guard and fearful of being unmasked as someone other than the imposter she pretended to be. Her emotions were a roller-coaster of constant doubt even though she felt tempted many times to reveal who she really was, only to catch herself, lest she fall prey to vicious gossip and being shunned by those she loved. This fine line she walked, both verbally and physically played well in this religious drama that was well written with engaging characters, especially the main protagonist, the emotionally, strong-willed Naomi. This historical fiction story was a fact-filled, emotionally charged, and enjoyable appetizer of what was to happen next for Naomi. The final chapter was the perfect setup for book 2 in the Naomi Chronicles.” – Mystery Author, Peggy A. Edelheit

5Stars! “A tale with purpose! Will the love Chaz and Naomi long for ever be grasped? This unfortunate pair is in God’s hands and without HIS help nothing can mend their depravity. Bitterness has taken up residence between this couple.; their souls are filled with yearning, deceit, craving, and yet a thirst for one another. Make sure you get this book and read it to find out how a bride flees as an alternative of confronting the consequences of her exposed mysteries. A story crafted from biblical principles, ‘Choosing to Be” is a tale with purpose, to guild its reader to knowing Jesus Christ as their savior, or to bless those who already have a relationship with HIM. This is the 2nd book I’ve read of the very talented author ‘Paula Rose Michelson’ the 1st was ‘No Other Choice’. I’ve found both books very inspirational and well written. They are a breath of fresh air that will take you away, even for a short while, from the whirlwind and grind of daily life.” Victoria Simcox, author of Fantasy Coming of Age Fictions

5Stars! “Exceptional insight into the struggles of the human condition of sin and the wisdom of God’s saving grace. As Jesus loves his own, will Chaz learn to love Naomi, and she vice versa, as well as resolve to have faith in him? After renewing their marriage vows, and their commitment to Christ, both are enthusiastic to kindle the passion that sparkled but then perished when secrets between them were stripped naked. They have decided that honesty is the only way for them to stay together; however, there are those who are stimulating a disturbance in El Barrio. Make sure and get this great story to see how a loving God intercedes in their union. Once again, author Paula Rose Michelson has written an outstanding narrative—well-written, appealing and enlightening. With exceptional insight into the struggles of the human condition of sin and the wisdom of God’s saving grace.” Victoria Simcox, author of Fantasy Coming of Age Fictions
